Pravara Rural Engineering College Loni, started on 21“August 1983, is the premier of all the institutions under the technical education complex developed by the Pravara Rural Education Society. The Society was established in 1964 by Late Padmashri Dr.Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, who was also founder of the Pravara Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd, Pravaranagar. The Society has been registered under the Societies Registration Act 1960 and the Mumbai Public Trust Act 1950.




The founder father of Agro co-operative movement. Late Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil established first Co-operative sugar factory of Asia. He firmly believed in socio-Economic transformation of rural India through appropriate education. With this idea, he Established Pravara Rural Education Society in 1964. Karma yogi son of a Karma yogi father Padmabhushan Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, Former Minister, Govt. of India, took upon himself the task of translating the dreams of Padmashri into concrete realities by providing dynamic and Pragmatic leadership to the Society. True to the tradition of illustrious family, Hon‘ble Namdar Shri. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Minister for Agriculture & Marketing Govt. of Maharashtra. Hon‘ble Shri. Ashok Patil Vikhe, Executive Chairman PRES,Loni Hon‘ble Shri. Rajendra Vikhe Patil, Managing Trustee, PREC are providing foresighted leader ship to make PRES comparable to the International standards. Today Pravara Rural Education Society has more than 80 institutions and more than 35,000 Students are catering education from K.G. to P.G. level in almost all disciplines under one umbrella.


The Pravara Rural Education Society has been awarded as the BEST EDUCATION SOCIETY in Maharashtra by Govt. of Maharashtra on 5th Sept. 2003 & Certified by ISO 9001-2008




As a pioneer, Padmashri Dr. Vikhe Patil, with the support of Shri.Vaikunthabhai Mehta and Shri.Dhananjayrao Gadgil, established a co-operative society of about 35000 farmers from amongst the 40 neighboring villages of the present-day Pravara Complex and set-up in 1950, the first co-operative sugar factory of Asia, exclusively owned and managed by the farmers. The success of this endeavor not only set the rural community on the path of non- violent rural revolution but the Pravara Pattern became an exemplary model emulated subsequently by others also.


As a reformer, Padmashri Dr. Vikhe Patil gave fillip to need based rural education by establishing Pravara Rural Education Society and adopted Gandhian Basic Education as a policy. In spite of insufficient support and encouragement from officialdom, he went ahead in establishing a chain of educational institutions to impart quality and relevant education to the rural folk. Padmashri Dr. Vikhe Patil foresaw an all-round improvement in the quality of rural life and socio-economic growth through a cycle of industry, Education and Industry. He made people realize the significance and importance of technical and professional education to the local youth for the improvement of rural life. His concepts were .ahead of his _times by more than two decades. All relevant and appropriate aspects of education like basic education, vocationalisation, women's education and higher education had been thought of, planned and made accessible to the rural people irrespective of caste, creed and religion.


Technical Education Complex


His worthy son Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil (Padmabhushan Awardee) Former Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprise has started number of institutes in rural area in the field of Engineering, Technology and Medical Sciences. He closely worked with his illustrious father for over a quarter of century, imbibed the concepts and principles of socio-economic transformation through appropriate professional education. With the principal objective of giving a boost to industrialization of the area and of stopping the migration of rural youth to urban areas, he started a technical complex consisting of an Industrial Training Institute, a Polytechnic, a College of Pharmacy and the Colleges of Engineering at Pravaranagar and Sinnar (Nasik). These institutes, in addition to developing the human resources at rural level and effectively stopping the exodus of the rural youth at urban areas, have bridged the differential gap between urban and rural growth and forged a pleasant mixture of the two cultures having a beneficial influence on the surroundings. Presently more than 35,000 students are studying in these institutes, out of which more than 5,000 girl students are residing in hostels with social security and in atmosphere conducive for studies.


True to the tradition of illustrious family, Hon'ble Namdar Shri Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Minister for Agriculture and Marketing is providing foresighted leadership to make PRES comparable to the International standards.


Established in .1964, Pravara Rural Education Society is one of the prominent institutions of rural India providing educational facilities in almost all the faculties: A Public School, Sainik School, many Secondary & English medium schools, Colleges of Arts, Science and Commerce, Agriculture Biotechnology and technical education complexes. Besides it runs a Kanya Vidya Mandi r exclusively for providing educational opportunities to the girls. The other educational institutions developed by Hon'ble Shri. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, Former Union Minister for Heavy industries & Public Enterprise, are Rural Medical College, Institute of Agriculture, Shirdi Sai»Rural Institute, Home Science College, Daily Sciences, a Kala Academy and the Pravara Institute of Research and Education in Natural and Social Sciences, Krida Prabodhini. The Sports Authority of India has selected Pravaranagar as a Centre for development of a sports complex on a huge campus of about 60 hectares of land. The Pravara Rural Education Society has been awarded as the BEST EDUCATION SOCIETY in Maharashtra by Govt. of Maharashtra on 5th Sept. 2003 and ISO 9001-2000 Certified.
